What Is It?

A complete fishing overhaul built from scratch. Not a progress bar — a five-phase system where every fish, zone, bait, and rod combination plays differently. Two rod types offer completely separate playstyles. Fish have time-of-day schedules, zone exclusivity, weight ranges, and difficulty scaling tied to their value. Everything is configurable.

How Fishing Works

  1. Equip your rod from inventory. The HUD shows your water zone, available fish, and time windows.
  2. Cast the line with LMB. Splash effects sync to all nearby players.
  3. Attract a bite:
    • Regular Rod: Press E to tug — builds interest (blue bar) and tension (red bar). Hook the fish at 100% interest without snapping the line.
    • Pro Rod: Skips this phase. Fish bites after a random 4–15 second wait.
  4. Fight the fish:
    • Regular Rod: Skillchecks (3–10 rounds). Good/great hits reel in, misses escalate difficulty.
    • Pro Rod: Skillchecks plus a real-time mouse direction pull. The fish yanks left, right, or forward — counter it or the line snaps.
  5. Catch! Unhook animation, fish in hands, item + bonus loot awarded.

Pro Rod direction pull: Camera controls are disabled. The fish pulls in a random direction that changes every 3–6 seconds. Move your mouse to counter it. Correct pull = 88% less drain. Wrong pull = tension climbs at 20/sec. Random forward jerks keep you on your toes. Progress hits 0 = escape. Tension hits 100 = snap.

Difficulty is based on sale price. Bigger payout = harder fight.

Many fish have time-of-day windows (e.g. Bullhead is nocturnal 8PM–6AM, Chain Pickerel feeds 5AM–12PM). Fish outside their hours won't appear.

Bait System

Equip bait from the menu (G key). Each bait targets specific fish, adjusts size weights, and has a unique lose chance on escape. Line snaps always consume bait.

No-bait fishing is possible but much harder. A risk/reward mechanic gives 3x interest bonus when tension is between 20–85%.

Water Zones (25+)

Mapped to RDR2's native water-zone hashes. Each zone has a curated species list. Trophy fish are zone-exclusive.

  • Flat Iron Lake — Sturgeon, Muskie, large bass. The trophy destination.
  • O'Creagh's Run — Mountain lake. Trout, salmon, Lake Sturgeon.
  • Owanjila — Deep reservoir. Muskie territory.
  • Lake Isabella — Frozen. Salmon, trout, Northern Pike.
  • Elysian Pool — Warm, murky. Catfish and Longnose Gar.
  • Dakota River — Fast current. Pickerel, salmon, pike.
  • Kamassa River — Slow, warm. Gar and catfish country.
  • Bayou Nwa — Deep swamp. Gar and catfish stronghold.
  • Creeks (Dewberry, Ringneck, etc.) — Small fish only. Beginner zones.
  • And 15+ more rivers, lakes, and ponds.

Every catch rolls a bonus loot table. Pro Rod rolls twice.

Seasons

On server start, 80% of fish are randomly marked "in season." Out-of-season fish can't be caught. Resets every restart or via /rerollseasons.

Music & Sound

Press C to cycle through 4 ambient music tracks while fishing. Full SFX for every action — cast, splash, bite, reel, escape, snap, equip/stow. Web Audio API playback with pitch variation.

Configuration

Everything is in config.lua and init.lua. Every value is exposed — skillcheck speeds, interest/tension rates, bait bonuses, fish prices/weights, loot tables, zone fish lists, music tracks, season percentages, pro rod drain/tension/pull tuning. No hardcoded magic numbers.
